Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Harrison, Minnie was born on 08 Oct 1898 in Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri (daughter of Harrison, Obediah and Harrison, Laura E); died on 10 Apr 1900.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Harrison, ObediahHarrison, Obediah was born on 13 Feb 1862 in Warren County, Tennessee (son of Harrison, Audley M. Jr. and Hennessee, Nancy); died on 20 Jun 1900 in Piney, Texas, Missouri, USA; was buried in Texas County, Missouri.

    • Census: 1880, Fannin County, Texas
    • Census: 04 Jun 1900, Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri

    Notes:

April 12, 1898, Obediah went to Forney, Kafman County, Texas, possibly visiting his father who moved there from Tennessee. He wrote Laura, his wife, a letter from there on this date. Juanita (Clower) Kirby Wells has this original letter.

Deleted: 1890 Census Piney Township, Texas County, Missouri. I don't know where I got this information. I usually don't put in a Census record unless I have it. I could not locate it... In case it comes up again.

1900 Census indicates Obediah was living in Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri with his wife Laura and 4 children Ulysses, Alta, Cassie and Belle, they could all read, however Laura and Alta could not write. It shows Obediah and Ulysses were farmers and they rented their home.

There may have been an illness in Texas County when Obediah passed away because Obediah and Laura had a 6 month old daughter who died just 2 months before Obediah and he was only 38 years old.

After Obediah passed away Laura let a man have hold of her property he sold it and moved her out to Cabool MO. Alph and Liss found a place at Claude called Hat Top Mountain east of Duncan and they sent for her and she came with the younger children with the exception of possibly Alta who married in Bado. Received from Marie (Jones) Bradley need to locate original record. Source and notes have not been added to each child:

Obediah married Harrison, Laura E on 06 Dec 1882 in Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri. Laura (daughter of Harrison, Audley B and Hargis, Hannah Elizabeth) was born on 14 Feb 1862 in Bado, Texas County, Missouri; died on 07 Feb 1927 in Faxon, Comanche County, Oklahoma; was buried in Lot 51 A Pecan Cemetery, Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Harrison, Laura EHarrison, Laura E was born on 14 Feb 1862 in Bado, Texas County, Missouri (daughter of Harrison, Audley B and Hargis, Hannah Elizabeth); died on 07 Feb 1927 in Faxon, Comanche County, Oklahoma; was buried in Lot 51 A Pecan Cemetery, Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma.

    Other Events:

    • Census: 04 Jun 1900, Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri
    • Census: 25 Feb 1920, Stephens County, Oklahoma

    Notes:

1900 census indicates Laura gave birth to Seven children but only 5 were living.

Interview with Cassie: Soon after Laura's husband Obediah Harrison died in 1901-1902, Laura and her children moved to Oklahoma Territory. Laura lost the farm in Missouri. I have heard something from a couple of people, including Juanita Wells, that there was a man who cheated Laura out of the farm. Cassie said something about Laura losing the farm also. She said Alph was about 17, Liss was about 14 and Laura sent them on horseback from Texas County Missouri to Stephens County, Oklahoma to find a place for them to live near her brother who lived there. After Alph and Liss found a place, Laura moved to Stephens County with the girls.

Should be able to locate 1910 census showing Cassie and Belle still living with Laura.

1920 Census indicates Laura was 58, a widdow, and living in Wall Township, Stephens County, Oklahoma with her single brother Bynker who was 54. The Census shows Laura owned her house which was free of mortgage, she was in the farming truck trade and could read and write.

Cassie remembers her father George W. Harrison sending Alph and Ed to Laura's to help them with the farm. Alph didn't like it, he didn't like farming, but Ed didn't mind.

DAR file number 840385 indicates Laura died in Lawton, Oklahoma, however Zula Juanita Harrison remembered Laura living with her family in Faxon, Oklahoma, just a few miles south of Lawton. This area was previously known as Lawrence Township, Pecan Cemetery is there where the majority of our Harrison and Hennessee family is burried and hundereds of our family once lived there. Obituary confirms Laura died in the home of her son, Alph Harrison, 11 miles southwest of Lawton, which is Faxon.

    Notes:

1850 Census indicates Audley Jr. was 8 years old on September 27, 1850.

1870 Census indicates Edly (Audley) Harrison was 26 living in Warren County, Tennessee on August 6, 1870 with his wife Nancy who was 25, son Obediah 7 and daughter Sarah who was 5. The Census also shows Edly was a farmer and Nancy kept house and she could not read or write. Their real estate was valued at $2000 and their personal property was valued at $1000.

1900 Census Milford, Ellis County, Texas, B Sheet No. 4 18 indicates Audley was living in Ellis County, Texas with his wife Laura A and daughter Cora, common laborer, owned his own home free and clear and everyone in the home could read and write. It also indicates he was born in the month of October and I changed his birthdate to reflect this. It states Laura A had given birth to 5 children and only 3 were living, Cora who lived with them was 14 and she had only been married to Audley for 12 years. This may mean that Laura had Cora before she married Audley.

Audley Harrison, Jr. was about eleven years old when his father, Audley Harrison, Sr. died.

Harrison and Hennessee Families: Lived Together and Fought Together
Between April 17th and May 20th, 1861 Tennessee seceded from the Union along with Virginia, Arkansas and North Carolina. That summer Camp Smartt was established and as the individual Civil War soldier's records show, on September 6, 1861 at least 15 of the Harrison and Hennessee brothers and cousins enlisted in the Civil War and on September 11th the Tennessee Mountain Rifle Regiment was organized. The Regiment changed names several times but finally came to be known as the 35th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. They served in the Regiment while it was called the 5th Regiment, Company "B" under the command of C M Forrest. These Hennessee and Harrison men included at least: Audley M Harrison and his brother Alexander, cousins J W and Samuel Harrison, his wife Nancy Hennessee's four brothers; James Sr., John Thomas, Patrick Scott and "Big" Thomas Jr., his wife's cousin and daughter's husband Archibald Hugh Hennessee, and Hennessee cousins Anderson L, George, James C, "Little" Thomas, Thomas L and James Jr.

Before 1880, Audley Harrison, Jr. moved to Texas where he settled in Milford, Ellis County, Texas.

April 12, 1898, Audley lived in Forney, Kafman County, Texas. His son Obediah came to visit and wrote home to his wife who was in Missouri on this date. Juanita (Clower) Kirby Wells has this original letter.

Somewhere I saw that there were more children for this family, Rachel, Mary Frances, Joseph and Elizabeth. However I could not confirm this information, I had no dates or location of birth and deleted it from my file.

1930 Census, Audley's son George, indicates his father was born in Tennessee.

DAR file number 840385 shows Audley died in Warren County, Tennessee in 1870 and several other reports including the Death Record on ancestry.com says he died in Bonnham, Fannin County, Texas. However this can not be correct as he is on Census records in 1880, 1890 and 1900 in Texas and applied for his pension #08676 near the end of his life in 1902. I have a copy of this pension in my possession. I spoke to the Texas State Library and Archives and they stated their Pension Log shows he died on May 20, 1902 and his one and only Pension check was mailed to Ellis County, Texas. A copy of this log is being mailed to me.

    Death:
This information is NOT correct and has been proven by the original pension records I received from the Texas Secretary of State. It is being corrected in the DAR records with my application, which is the only way DAR will make changes or corrections to records. - Sandra Harrison

    Died:
Juanita Clower Kirby Wells research shows Audley died in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas and so does the ancestry.com death index record.

Audley married Hennessee, Nancy on 14 Apr 1861 in Warren County, Tennessee. Nancy (daughter of Hennessee, Thomas and Jennings, Sally) was born in 1845 in Warren County, Tennessee; died between 1872 and 1876 in Warren County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Hennessee, Nancy was born in 1845 in Warren County, Tennessee (daughter of Hennessee, Thomas and Jennings, Sally); died between 1872 and 1876 in Warren County, Tennessee.

    Other Events:

    • Birth: 1839
    • Census: 06 Aug 1870, Warren County, Tennessee

    Notes:

Some published family trees note Nancy Hennessee's birth date as 1839. This writer could not locate any information to document the 1839 birth date.

1870 Census indicates Nancy was 25. She would have been born about 1845.

Cassie (Harrison) Bevis thinks Nancy may have died in or near child birth. She may have never recovered after having the twins.

1930 Census, Nancy's son George, indicates his mother was born in Tennessee.

    Notes:

Wiseman book indicates wedding day as 14th, ancestry.com Tennessee Marriage Index indicates 13th. Will order Warren County, Tennessee Marriage Records 1852 - 1900 to verify this information.

  1. 8.  Harrison, Audley M. Sr.Harrison, Audley M. Sr. was born on 06 Jun 1791 in Jeffersonville, Tazewell County, Virginia (son of Harrison, Thomas S Sr and Dennis, Hannah); died on 30 Nov 1852 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee; was buried in Shellsford Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.

    • Probate: 06 Dec 1852, Warren County, Tennessee; Chancery Court Records, Book 1 (1847-1854), Page 484-486

    Notes:

There is much confustion about the actual date Audley M. Harrison died, however 11/30/1852 was confirmed by a photograph of his tombstone.

    1. 11/30/1859 Eugene Wiseman said his toumbstone in Shellsford Cemetary, Warren County, Tennessee says Audley died November 30, 1859.

    2. 11/30/1852 Eugene also states the will was signed on November 28, 1852 and was probated on December 6, 1852. He would have signed his will just before he died.
This researcher has only seen retyped copies of the document and will have to check the original.
*Will signed 11/28/1852 confirmed from copy of original in Wiseman book on 11/3/2006.

    3. 11/30/1852 Warren County, Tennessee, Chancery Court Minute Book 3, page 97, which deals with the settlement of the estate of Richmond McGregor, indicates Audley died November 30, 1852. This researcher has only see retyped copies of the document and will have to check the original.

    4. Bef. 3/28/1853 Warren County, Tennessee, Chancery Court Minute Book 1 (1847-1854), Page 484-486, which deals with the settlement of Audley Harrison's estate, indicates the court case was heard on March 28, 1853 and was agreed to and signed on December 20, 1853. Eugene Wiseman says the case was heard March 28, 1854 not 1853. Audley would have to have died before the case was heard. This date would have been just 4 months after Audley's death if he died 11/30/1852.

This researcher has only seen retyped copies of the document and will have to check the original.

Tazewell County, Virginia was not originally the name of Audley's birth location, it was Botetourt County and the name of the county changed after his birth.

1820 Census indicates "Edly" (Audley Harrison) was living in Warren County, Tennessee with the following in his home: 1 male 26 - 45 (Audley was 29), 1 female 26 - 45 (Anna Elizabeth Dennis was 26), 2 males under 10 (George was 9 and Joseph was 3), 3 females under 10 (Nettie was 10, Anna was 5, Eleanor was 2) Saphronia's birth year was about 1819, and eaisly could have been born in 1820 after the Census. The Census indicates "Edly" was engaged in Agriculture.

Before 1820 Samuel Harrison moved from Tazewell County, Virginia to Warren County, Tennessee, where on July 9, 1825 he gave power of attorney to Audley Harrison, Sr. to "all rights to inheritance from my father Thomas Harrison, late of Tazewell County". This is listed in Tazewell County Deed Book 4, page 35.

On October 24, 1927, James Lockhart of Warren County, Tennessee, gave a power of attorney to Audley Harrison, Sr. to convey 120 acres of land, located on the headwaters of the Maiden Springs Fork of the Clinch River. The 120 acres was adjacent to land owned by William Williams, David Allen, and James Whitten. It is registered in Tazewell County, Virginia, Deed Book 4, Page 463 and in Order Book, page 273.

Documentation from "The Audley Harrison House" by the Warren County, Tennessee Historical Society. excerpt: "Audley Harrison died intestate (without a will) , according to court records." The McMinnville Heritage Alliance wrote in a letter in 2006 "The main cabin is The Harrison Cabin. It was relocated and reconfigured so it is not all original. The Jennings family, of course, lived there man years after Audley Harrison did. The O'neal cabin was the slave cabin (later the kitchen) for the main log house. It did not get the changes and preservation The Harrison Cabin did, Heritage Alliance does not sponsor the other cabin at the fair grounds - only The Harrison House."

One researchers records indicated Audley was a Justice of the Peace in the 4th Civil District, Warren County, Tennessee. This writer has been unable to verify that record.

    1840 Census indicates Audley was living in Warren County, Tennessee with the following in his home: 1 male 50 - 60 (Audley was 50), 1 female 30 - 40 (Elizabeth Grove was 36), 1 male under 5 (Alexander was 2), 1 female 15 - 20 (Virginia was 15) 2 females 10 - 15 (Nancy was 13, Millie was 10) 1 female 5 - 10 (Hannah L. was 8) and 1 female under 5 (Julia was 1). The Slave Schedule shows they had 2 males who were 10 - 24, 1 female 36 - 55, 1 female under the age of 10 and the family was engaged in Agriculture.

1850 Census indicates Audley and Elizabeth were living in Warren County, Tennessee on September 27, 1850. They had six children living with them. Hannah who was 18 and Audley's daughter from a previous marriage to Hanna Elizabeth Dennis who died in 1836, Alexander who was 12, Julia who was 10, Audley Jr. who was 8, Mary who was 5 and Thomas who was 3. The Census shows Audley was a farmer and the value of his property was $2000. It also states there was a 26 year old man living with them, Claboam, who was also a farmer.

1850 Census Schedule 2 Slave Schedule indicates Audley had 9 slaves: black female 55, black male 35, black male 25, black female 18, mulatto male 16, black male 16, black male 15, and two mulatto females 8 years old.

Audley is named as child of Thomas Harrison and Hannah Harrison's wills.

Although DAR file number 840385 indicates Audley's marriage to Elizabeth Groves was after 1835, I have retained the marriage as about 1837 as his first wife, Hannah Elizabeth Dennis' tombstone shows she died 2 Feb 1836 and Audley would have remarried after her death but sometime before the birth of their first child in 1838.

Audley married Grove, Elizabeth about 1837 in Warren County, Tennessee. Elizabeth (daughter of Grove, John Sr.) was born about 1804 in Tennessee; died about 1860 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Grove, Elizabeth was born about 1804 in Tennessee (daughter of Grove, John Sr.); died about 1860 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee.

    • Census: 1840, Warren County, Tennessee
    • Census: 27 Sep 1850, Warren County, Tennessee
    • Census: 09 Aug 1860, Warren County, Tennessee

    Notes:

1860 Census indicates Elizabeth is living in Warren County, Tennessee on August 9, 1860 with three of her children, Audley Jr. who is 18, Mary who is 14 and Thomas who is 12. Elizabeth lost her husband Audley M Sr. just a few months before the Census was taken. It states Elizabeth was born in Tennessee. The Census shows their property value was $250. It was valued at $2000 just ten years earlier.

    Notes:

1850 Census Record for Texas County, Missouri indicates Joseph and Mary "Polly" must have moved to Missouri from Tennessee sometime between 1843 and 1845 since thier son James was born in Tennessee in about 1843 and they had their next child, Nancy in Missouri in about 1845.

Since there are no other Harrison's or Groves listed in the census, Joseph and Polly were probably the first of their family to settle in the Texas County, Missouri area. Later census records indicate other family members and their parents followed Joseph and Polly.
